Youth Capoeira Batuque

Cultivating a healthy community through Movement, Music and Arts Education.

This dynamic program is designed to expose children to the rich Afro-Brazilian art form of Capoeira and all it’s wonders. Not only do children learn this great Martial Art, but they also learn acrobatics, dance, percussive instruments, singing, history and Portuguese. They learn to function within a community by being active members. We use Capoeira as a vehicle to teach discipline, trust, respect, leadership, mindfulness, creativity, mentorship, focus, fitness, awareness and exploration.

This program requires a commitment from children and families. Graduation is once year. Limited space.

In some places Parkour has been defined as the “fluidity and efficiency of human movement.” Others have given it a more explicative definition by saying it is, “The art of moving effectively through the environment using only the human body to overcome obstacles,” and/or “Moving from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible using the abilities of the human body.”

Capoeira Batuque

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art form which combines different aspects of martial art, dance, music, capoeira and acrobatics. Capoeira Batuque is the longest standing academy in Southern California and the heartbeat of Brasil Brasil Cultural Center. This art form, which was developed by the slaves as they were learning to fight and protect themselves, was disguised as a dance accompanied to music since it was illegal to practice any kind of Martial Art. The word “jiu jitsu” derives from the Japanese “Jū” meaning “gentle” and “Jutsu” meaning “art”; essentially, jiu jitsu is the “gentle art”.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a predominantly ground-based martial art, using the principals of leverage, angles, pressure and timing, as well as knowledge of the human anatomy, in order to achieve a non-violent submission of one’s opponent. Unlike other martial arts that focus on strikes and/or kicks, jiu jitsu focuses on close-contact “grappling” holds and techniques, and the application of chokes and joint-manipulations
